On October 24, 2009, student leaders and advisors from six high school and college Best Buddies chapters gathered at Providence College for Rhode Islands annual Local Leadership Training Day.
The purpose of the training is to provide theses key players with the information and skills they need in order to assure that the mission of Best Buddies is being fulfilled within each of their chapters.
The afternoon began with a brief overview of Best Buddies International. It really is inspiring to think about how global a movement Best Buddies is. With approximately 1,400 chapters in 46 countries worldwide (and still expanding!), one might easily assume that there is much disconnect from chapter to chapter and from state to state.
But quite the contrary is true. On this day, students from schools all over the state joined together for one common cause- Best Buddies specialty- friendship. It is an invaluable realization for these students that they are a part of something that is so much larger than the chapter they are a member of.
Through activities and group discussions, everyone left the training with new ideas for chapter events and fundraisers, ways to foster friendships between buddy pairs, and even new friendships amongst themselves.
The future of Best Buddies Rhode Island looks promising with such strong student leaders! |
